Climate :


While northerly winds temper the climate along the Mediterranean coast, interior areas are hot and dry most of the year. From December through February, temperatures average 20°C (68°F) on the coast and 26°C (80°F) in Aswan. Alexandria receives the most rain with 19cm (7.5 inches) annually, while Aswan gets just 2mm.
Currency :



Egyptian pound (LE) = 100 piasters (pt) Traditionally a cash society, there are an increasing number of ATMs for cash advances and major credit cards are widely accepted in tourist areas. Bank hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Electricity:



Electric Power is 220V running at 50Hz using a round pin attachment plug.
Entrance Fees:



Most fees are included in the cost of Royal Way Tours. A few exceptions:
  • Mummy Room at the Cairo Museum LE 100
  • Tutankhamun´s Tomb in the Valley of the Kings LE100
  • Entrance to the Pyramid of Cheops is limited and costs extra.

  • Flights:



    Most visitors arrive by air through Cairo International Airport, which is served by national carrier Egypt Air and several major international airlines. A number of smaller regional carriers serve airports Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada (Al-Ghardaka) and Sharm el-Sheikh. Health: Avoid tap water. B ottled water is safe, inexpensive and readily available.

    Tipping and gratuities:



    Tipping is a way of life in Egypt. Nonetheless, it is not required and highly dependent on customer satisfaction.
    Language:



    Arabic (official), English and French widely understood by educated classes.
    Visas:



    Required tourist visas can be obtained for $15 cash upon arrival at Cairo International Airport and other major entry points. South Africans must obtain their visas in their home country. Visas are not available when traveling from Israel.
